Use the sketchpad to level painting skill and complete daily tasks for the career. New information (12/28/2018): The sketchpad breaks on multitasking. To find the bug, queue the sim to listen to a radio station or chat with another sim while using any of the painting options on the sketchpad.

[FIXED] Sims reset using the Digitalistic Sketchpad - EA Answers HQ
Gave them the Freelancer Artist Career, and they cannot complete any actions on the Digital Sketchpad. The action (drawing a portrait in this case for a freelancer gig) cancels itself just at the end of it's cycle, and the Sims pops out of place (resets nearby) and the digital sketchpad also resets to a location near the Sim, on the floor.

@StilettoSims @crinrict - Sometime after I posted my pics of the sketchpad menu, my digitalistic sketchpad stopped working and went to the same issue that you're having - only the option to "Paint from Reference" or "Place In Inventory/World" was there. I don't know what made it happen, but buying a new sketchpad did solve it.

Sometimes the lower value ones are accepted, but higher value isn't, and when you edit it neither the value nor the quality increases yet it is accepted or rejected as usual.
