2004年8月18日 · The Gentoo Handbook only describes a Gentoo installation using a stage3 tarball. However, Gentoo still provides stage1 and stage2 tarballs. This is for development purposes (the Release Engineering team starts from a stage1 tarball to obtain a stage3) but shouldn't be used by users : a stage3 tarball can very well be used to bootstrap the system.

2021年6月24日 · While Gentoo boots there are several penguins on the top of the framebuffer. In my system they somehow interfere with the Less pager, such that it fails to scroll properly. The problem does not happen if I switch to another console (without the penguins), so I would like to remove them; I searched but did not find how to.

I've been screwing with the frambuffer support in the kernel config and the vga= and video= lines in grub.conf, but I'm getting nowhere.
