Why did Super-VGA offer the 5:4 1280×1024 resolution?
2019年7月3日 · @Jonathan The 1280x1024 5:4 aspect ratio display, with a square pixels, only became a thing with 1280x1024 5:4 aspect ratio LCD panels. On 4:3 aspect ratio CRTs, 1280x1024 has non-square pixels. This was actually a problem for games, since 1280x1024 could be displayed on either a 5:4 or 4:3 display and there was no way to infer which was the case.

It will say something like "Resolution out of bounds" or some similar message because it can not display 1920x1080 on 1280x1024. It is like trying to pour 4 gallons of water into a 1 gallon jug, it just doesn't fit... 720p is what you should set any device you connect to this monitor.

2006年6月21日 · anyway, 1280x1024 is a standard VESA resolution, so for some reason it is supported by basically everything, even though people usually have 4:3 monitors (not 5:4). desktop LCDs with native resolutions of 1280x1024 are physically 5:4 so there isn't any distortion running a 5:4 resolution on them.

If you use 1280x1024 instead of 1280x960, you get an extra 60 pixels (<10% increase). Ok, so let's round up, and say it increases the number of pixels by 10%.
